RUHS Nurses Recognized for Leadership

Three Riverside University Health System - Medical Center nurses known for their kindness, collaborative attitudes and efforts to support colleagues were each recognized for their stellar work with a leadership award.

Nurses Daisy Aguilar, Farah Fiallii and Maggie Brown are recipients of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award, which recognizes nurses who don’t typically work with patients, but tend to work with other nurses and medical professionals — and who help to create a compassionate environment for those colleagues to thrive.

Here’s what RUHS staff who nominated these nurses had to say about them.

Daisy Aguilar - RN III - Oncology/Infusion Clinic

“Working in the healthcare field is not an easy job, but with great people around you it makes it easier to adjust. That’s how I felt when I transferred to the Infusion Clinic. Daisy Aguilar is our lead nurse. She is a  multitasker and no matter what questions or problems you have at work, she has an answer, or if not, she will help you find the answer. She is a very organized person and a great team leader. You will know when she is not around because it is ‘chaotic.’ She supports her team no matter what disaster our unit faces. She deserves this award as she always goes above and beyond her duties.”

Farah Fiallii - RN III - Emergency Room

“Farah has had a significant impact on enhancing the quality of care provided at the bedside through her exemplary compassion, expertise and leadership. She fosters a supportive and nurturing environment where nurses feel empowered to deliver compassionate care to patients. For instance, Farah leads by example, consistently demonstrating kindness and empathy toward both patients and colleagues. Her approachable demeanor and her willingness to listen to and support her team members creates a sense of trust and collaboration among nurses. Moreover, Farah’s extensive knowledge and experience enable her to provide guidance and mentorship to newer nurses, helping them develop their skills and confidence in delivering excellent care. She emphasizes the importance of quality and optimal patient care, ensuring that nurses not only attend to patients’ physical needs but also address their emotional and psychological well-being. Overall, Farah’s leadership and dedication to compassionate care have undoubtedly positively influenced not only my own ability but also that of other nurses to provide exceptional care at the bedside.”

Maggie Brown - Assistant Nurse Manager - Labor and Delivery

“I have to recognize Maggie for all she does to recognize staff, engage with staff and just be a champion in celebrating staff successes and special days. The one moment that most recently stands out is an employee who missed their 20-year service award due to COVID. This particular employee never received her certificate at her 20-year mark due to all the cancellations of events from 2020-2021. Over the past six months, Maggie worked with HR to get this employee her certificate and we set aside specific time on the unit to bring staff together and recognize the dedication of this one staff member. This is just one example of what Maggie does. She reminds us all of special days to celebrate our staff, including Certified Nurses Day, Administrative Professionals Day and birthdays. Maggie leads a team to celebrate holidays and brings fun to work. Maggie runs our SharePoint huddle site and shares activities, pictures and awards involving our staff. Our unit is happy and our staff are engaged because of Maggie.”
