Patients Praise DAISY Honorees for their Dedicated Care
Two Riverside University Health System - Medical Center nurses were recognized with DAISY Awards in December and January for their steadfast care of patients.
The awards, presented by the DAISY Foundation, allow a nurse’s colleagues and patients, and patient family members, to celebrate that nurse for their good work.
Here are excerpts from patient nominations for nurses Paula Beacom and Sonya Juarez.
December: Paul Beacom, Arlington campus
“This wonderful lady went above and beyond her call of duty. She made me feel as if everything would be okay, she was kind and gentle, even took time to let me know it was not a fault of mine that this mishap kept happening. It is very embarrassing having a colostomy bag, especially when it keeps leaking. Paula had her own patient, yet she still always helped me. She even made my bed like three times and made sure I had clean clothes and or assisted with helping dry and patch me up. Paula made sure I was treated with dignity and respect.”
January: Sonya Juarez, 3500 Unit
“I broke my leg and ended up on unit 3500. Sonya was one of my RN’s. What a beautiful spirit and a great Nurse! I have been an RN for 35 years. I was not in a hospital setting during COVID. Some of the experiences Sonja shared were heart-wrenching and yet this young RN continued to persevere through all of it and grow in her nursing skills. She is an impeccable RN. Anytime I had a question she was there with the answer. She spent time making sure my IV site was good, especially since I was getting IV Toradol. This seems like a no brainer; however, you would be surprised as to how many times that can be overlooked. … Her nursing and clinical skills are great. It is her people skills that set her apart. She has good listening skills and was able to be patient and communicate well. It is important to recognize this skill as many times it is overlooked. Thank you for hiring and nurturing this young nurse who will be an asset for years to come.”
