Mary Virgen Retires

Mary Virgen began her journey with RUHS as the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO). After a distinguished and dedicated career, she is now retiring as the Executive Director of Women's and Children's Services. As Mary embarks on this new chapter, she eagerly anticipates devoting more time to her family, which includes seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In expressing her gratitude, Mary stated, "Thank you to my team. Without you, we could not have touched the lives of so many patients as we did." Her acknowledgment underscores the collaborative spirit that contributed to the positive impact on countless patients throughout her tenure.

During her retirement celebration, Mary received the prestigious Daisy Award, an honor reserved for nurses who have made a lasting impact throughout their careers. This lifetime achievement award, accompanied by a certificate and intricately hand-carved "Healer’s Touch" sculpture from Zimbabwe, recognizes Mary's significant contributions and positive influence in the nursing profession.

She was also instrumental in helping RUHS win recognition from U.S. News & World Report as one of 2023’s best hospitals in the nation for maternity care.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mary for her unwavering dedication and expertise, which played a pivotal role in shaping RUHS into the award-winning Health System that it is today. Mary's legacy is one of significant contribution and lasting influence, and we wish her a retirement filled with joy, surrounded by the love of her family.
